Penfolds St.Henri Shiraz 2005 75cl
A counterpoint to Penfolds Grange,St Henri is a highly successful alternative expression of Shiraz.
Unusual among high quality Australian red wines,it does not rely on new oak but matures in large old casks which allow the wine to develop, but impart no oak character.
First created in 1953 by a colleague of Max Schubert,John Davoren, who revived the old St Henri label from a claret style wine which had been created in the 1850's by a Frenchman.
"Drinking well upon release, yet will cellar well.Over half a century on the StHenri stylistic stamp remains indelible" Peter Gaco Penfolds Chief Winemaker.
The nose is floral, perfumed and fresh-the palate well concentrated and mouth filling with plenty of fruit sweetness mulberry/blackberry flavours and lacy tannins.A rich, ripe style packed with fruit and tannins, but no oak.
Fruit is sourced fromBarossa/Langhorne Creek/McLaren Vale
Drink 2010 - 2025.
