The Mellot family first made wine in 1513. During the 19th Century Alphonse established a tavern in Sancerre, and today the 18th and 19th generations of the family - both Alphonse - control the business that grew out of the little tavern. Alphonse senior took control of the estate in 1970, and began focusing on quality rather than volume. Today the vineyard owned by the family is a manageable 47 hectares or thereabouts, farmed largely organically. Alphonse junior has now taken the lead, and today works with his father to make and promote the wines.

Viticulture: Biodynamic vineyard management. Vines are trained with Guyot or Royat Cordon methods.

Vinification: The grapes underwent sequential pneumatic pressing, followed by static settling at a temperature below 10°C for about 48 hours. Fermentation for 60% of the juice took place in, 20% in one year casks and 20% in two year casks at a temperature between 18 and 24°C. The wood comes from predominantly French Bertrange oaks, the firewood of which is average and honey coloured.

Wonderful and expressive aroma of ripe pineapple and grapefruit, very pure fruit style with lovely length. A very fine, rich wine with exquisite freshness on the palate.

Every day serving suggestion:  At 10-12°C as an aperitif or 12 - 14°C.
