The grapes are sourced from the oldest Sangiovese Grosso vines in the Greppo vineyards and only produced in exceptional years; the wine is aged for 3 years in large Slavonian oak barrels. An iconic producer both in Italy and across the world Biondi-Santi creates a long-lived and exceptionally complex Brunello and the Riserva is rightly placed on the top tier of the Tuscan red pedestal. Biondi- Santi recommend this is opened at least eight hours prior to serving and the youthful nature of this red probably dictates the need to decant it. Even more intense than their ‘basic’ Brunello it manages to be both dense and inky as well as elegant and slender.
